THE BEGINNINGS
The Methodist Church originated as a movement historically related with denominations of the Protestant Church. The Methodist Church movement was started by John Wesley (Anglican cleric and Christian Theologian), his brother Charles Wesley and his fellow cleric George Whitfield. The Methodist church originated as a revival within the 18th Century Church of England and eventually became a separate church following the death of John Wesley. Because of the vigorous missionary activity, the movement spread throughout the British Empire, The United States and beyond. Today the Methodist Church approximately has 80 million adherents.
